2007 Media Recap

I reviewed 13 books this year, and neglected to write the review for two, Fabric of the Cosmos by Brian Greene, and the final Harry Potter by JK Rowling. That's five more reviews than last year, but one of the reviews was for a book I read years ago, The Bonds of Love, Psychoanalysis, Feminism, and the Problem of Domination, by Jessica Benjamin.

So the books I read & reviewed in 2007:

Glorious Food by Christopher Idone
The New Good Housekeeping Cookbook
Between Lovers by Eric Jerome Dickey
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion
My Life by Bill Clinton
The Orphan's Tales In the Night Garden by Catherynne M. Valente
The Privilege of the Sword by Ellen Kushner
the truth about forever by Sarah Dessen
Wicked by Gregory Maguire
Shelters of Stone by Jean M. Auel
Halos by Kristen Heitzman
Heat by Bill Buford

2007's to-read list has become 2008's to-read list almost fully intact:

If You Want to Write (A Book about Art, Independence and Spirit) by Brenda Ueland (in process)
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
Flight Into Danger by E. K. Barber
Sailing Alone Around the Room by Billy Collins (in process)
Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair by Pablo Neruda
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) by JK Rowling
Wicked (The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West) by Gregory Maguire

The Cohousing Handbook by Chris Hansen (in process)

Add to this WisCon's to-read list:

Ellen Klages: The Green Glass Sea , Portable Childhoods (with Neil Gaiman), and Basement Magic
Laurie J. Marks: Fire Logic, Earth Logic, and Water Logic. (Fire Logic is now underway)
Ellen Kushner: The Privilege of the Sword
Shelley Jackson: Half Life: A Novel
Catherynne Valente: The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden
Julie Phillips: James Tiptree, Jr.: The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon

That's 14 books on the list. Maybe I should admit defeat on the majority of the first 6 - they've been on the list for over 2 years! Obviously I'm just not that in to them.

I also discovered Library Thing, and am slowly adding my collection to the 'net.

Movies and Television:

I reviewed 7 movies this year, and neglected to review Transformers (courtesy of Charter-on-demand) and Beowulf (courtesy of [profile] emorog)
Movies mentioned or reviewed: Wilby Wonderful, The Snow Walker, The Big Chill, Harry Potter, Christmas Do Over, Jack Frost, Eight Below which is 9 less than in 2006.
Plus, the Sci Fi channel's mini series,  Tin Man.  I also watched another season of the L word while on the road.  Due South Season 3 (disc 1) was gobbled up quickly.
According to Netflix, we also viewed these (I'm not including the stuff I didn't personally watch):
Bill Maher: New Rules
The Reduced Shakespeare Company
Gettysburg
Gone With the Wind
Finding Neverland
Monty Python
The Chronicles of Narnia
(I don't actually remember this, but I'd watch it if it were here)
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (yes, this was one of mine, LOL)
Curious George
Old School
Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby
The Shaggy Dog
Moulin Rouge
(we returned this unwatched after having it here for a couple of months)
When it was a Game 2
Open Season
The Complete Monterey Pop Festival
You can tell that all 4 of us contribute to the queue for Netflix. I'm kind of glad I didn't review most of these. The next 5 in the queue are:
Pirates of the Carribean 2 & 3, Jimi Plays Berkeley, SG:A season 2, and The Pillow Book (plus season 4 of West Wing is here, thanks to Mavis).

Music: Two media entries for the year - New Car Music and Music to Fuck By round out the year.

All in all, I've been keeping my grey matter busy :)
