The Geek Patrol

Okay, this meme is probably why I finally broke down and got on LJ. I have seen it on several other LJs, including [livejournal.com profile] texasbek, [livejournal.com profile] geekwriter143, and [livejournal.com profile] janissa11 and I'm sure it will keep cropping up. I realized that I was walking around all day, working on my own dork list, so I was going to have to answer the question sometime. In no particular order, except that I thought of them this way:
I am a geek because I will stand in the middle of a room full of Coors Light drinkers, and wax eloquent about the beauty of Anchor Porter. The color! The head! See how creamy and tight it is! Stick your nose in it! Lick it straight out of the glass! Taste the chocolate notes! (I kid you not. I have done this, and the result was that at least 2 of those present eventually learned to drink real beer - Nut Brown Ales and Weiss, no less.)
I am a geek because in my nightstand stack of reading material is a much loved, annotated and signed copy of "The Elegant Universe," and another of "The Story of i (the square root of neg. 1), while my copy of "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" remains unopened.
I am a dork because I will stop whatever I'm doing and pogo to "What I Like About You" by the Romantics, no matter where I am when it starts playing. I will also usually squee with delight.
I am a dork because as long as I have capers, fresh basil and garlic, all will be right with the world, even if I’m living in squalid temp housing with no access to my own cutlery.
I am a dork because for the 3rd year in a row, I’m co-creating the Midwest Alternative Polyamory Conference, and I think that working my butt off so 70 or so people can have a fun weekend camping in the woods is the best way evah to spend accrued vacation days. But I am not alone, all the other co-creators (and you know who you are) are just as dorky as me, and I love them all! I just fear that I am the Uber Dork in this case.
And a bonus: My small pants always have to match my outfit ::blush::

You are light years ahead in beer tasting/appreciation. I just started down that road. Years back mostly perferred Hacker-Pschorr xtra dark but it was always too hard to find. Since Jan 1 been tasting New Glarus. Spotted Cow too mild but it's what other friends like and the easiest to find. Black Wheat a tiny bit too richly flavored. Tentatively settled on Fat Squirrel. Trying all the others too. No need to rush the sampling either (smile).

If Your Geekiness also has an interest in the psychological and metaphysical, then you need "The Nature of Personal Reality" by Jane Roberts for your nightstand. Are dorks color coordinated these days (referring to your last comment)? I've lost touch with the younger generations. That can happen later in life you know. Good chance I will see you at the MAPC. I sent in my registration today but I do not have all my dorky ducks in a row as yet (smile). Time will tell. MarkJ

>>then you need "The Nature of Personal Reality" by Jane Roberts for your nightstand<<

Thanks, I'll add it to the list for the next book run

>>Are dorks color coordinated these days? <<

Not that I know of. It's not the fact of *being* color-coordinated, it's being obsessed about *having* to be. Just a little OCD to go with my underwear, LOL. I haven't noticed any other OCD trends, but I'm sure my *friends* will point them out. (Geez, read a littly McKay/Sheppard snark before 0800 and it really rubs off on ya!)

Yay! get those ducks in a row, boy, and get thee to Prairie du Chien. I can't wait to put a face to the name!
