Fandoms I Have Known
Okay, this is an esoteric meme that's been popping up on my flist. I'm not sure very many people who read here will even want to play along, but we'll see.
The point is to write about a fandom in a way that makes it seem like a relationship, and then the readers have to guess which show/movie/book fandom you're talking about.
1) You were my first love, and you opened my eyes to a whole new way of seeing the world. You set the bar so high that very few could truly follow you. You were funny and smart, and I really miss you. I love that we still bump into each other occasionally, but it's just not the same anymore.
2) I don't know if it was the rebound or the curiousity that got me started with you. Maybe it was the uniform. You were always a guilty pleasure, because I knew your parents so well. I loved exploring the universe with you, but I had to come back to earth sometime.
3) You were always such a hot date-so mysterious and compelling. I looked forward to Fridays something fierce when we first got together. Years later, when we met up again, you were hot in a whole new way, and for awhile I couldn't get enough of you. But you were changing, and I couldn't deal. It was a relief to finally let you go.
4) We were fixed up by a friend who insisted we'd get along; she practically forced you on me. Oh, how I'm glad she did. We've been together ever since, and while you're not my first or only, you'll always be my truest love. I've learned so much about survival, and cars and hockey (who knew?) because of you. You're the one I turn to, time and again for comfort and/or hilarity. And it's totally your other girlfriends' fault that I've been seeing others on the side.
5) How do I love thee and your younger sibling? Let me count the ways. I don't mind at all that you've got so many lovers, because it's truly "the more, the merrier" with you two. You're both explorers, and heroes and smart and funny and annoying, and you each do 10 impossible things before breakfast every day, sometimes faster than humanly possible. I just can't tear myself away!
6) Yeah, I can be shallow. I liked you just for the pretty. Not that you don't have depth and subtext and heroics, mind you. But when I'm being honest, I'm just with you for the long hair and the long legs, and the nancing about. And sometimes for those big blue eyes too. Even though I know there won't be anything new to add to our relationship, it's okay because it's always been about the pretty with us.
7) I really shouldn't be having this relationship with you, no matter how intermittent it is. Yes, it's all wholesome and fun when we're around the kids, but I can't believe we went on to have this sordid/magical affair behind their backs. You're really mature for your age, even if you are still technically a tadpole. Graduation is looming, and I'm guessing you'll move on and I'll finally be able to forget about you. It's for the best. Really.

But come on - how could you not guess #1? It's probably the only one we have in common!

Man, I wish it were all describing one show. That would be the finest television show EVAR.

I don't know if combining 20 shows would make the most perfect television program ever. But if there were such a thing, I think it would have to have these criteria:
--Running jokes that only the most hardcore fans get every time
--Drama of the crime, law, heroic, or science-fictiony type
--Mysterious people with mysterious pasts
--Zero commercials between opening and closing credits
--Plenty of pop-culture referrences
--Lots of perverse-sex hints and overtones
--A catchy-as-hell theme song
--Gadgets
--One character who speaks in an enthrallingly sexy foreign accent
--Surprise guests in semi-recurring roles
--Leading men who are teh sex0rz
--Damsels in skimpy outfits who are assured of their own sexiness
--A bear (preferrably one that stands on its hind legs)

My Guesses
Number two is Star Trek: Next Gen
Three is West Wing
Five is Firefly and serenity?
that's where I lose it.. P
Re: My Guesses
Number 2 is Oh-So-Close
Number 5 is a really good guess, logical even, but you'll have to try again.

a) A woman I know had such a huge crush on you and talked about you so much that I just had to meet you. It took me a little while to warm up to you, but then you blew me away. And now? Well, you seem to have almost as many impersonators as Elvis, but while they *may* have flash or style, they'll never measure up to your substance. You are *the* original.
b) I often long for the golden days when our relationship was in its first blush. But even though we grew a bit apart, I always loved you, and probably always will, if only for your idealism and strength of character. Let's keep in touch, okay?
