Christmas in July
I'm going to have to give in and name my internal DJ. I think "Dr. Demento" is apt.
This morning, I awoke to "The Holly and the Ivy." The George Winston version. ::headdesk:: For the past two days, it's been Jack Johnson's "Bubble Toes." At least that has a good reason, even if it's not my favorite of his. Huh, I'm not sure I've got a favorite, I just generally like him. Anyway, last week I finally acquired his first CD, so the fact that I've been mainly listening to it during my commutes to MLW, explains the perpetual repeat.
But "The Holly and the Ivy?" I've got no idea why.

with a contested history.

Also, in sokme pagan traditions, there are two kings which rule the two seasons each year. The Holly King and the Oak King. There are parts of the British Isles where the Oak King is also known as the Ivy King. I don't know if this has anything to do with the song, but you never know.
This agrees with the way I learned it - The Holly King rules from Summer Solstice to Winter Solstice, at which time the wheel turns in favor of the Ivy King who then rules until Summer Solstice. So the long night of Winter Solstice is the culmination of the Holly King's power, and then the light (Ivy) begins it's return with the next dawn.

Maybe you are overly warm and wishing for winter? Didn't do enough for summer solstice?
Drat that subconscious
OatesIvy tune. All you need is like three notes in a row and your mind is off and running. The medley thing does get a little frustrating for me.
