Happy Anniversary!

Happy 19th Anniversary to [livejournal.com profile] barley52 !  Yes, it was 19 years ago today we went on our first date in Greenville, SC.

It was a Friday night when we went to dinner at a really nice seafood restaurant, that was to remain our favorite place for several years afterward.  In fact we were eating there about every other week until we started having kids :)  He ordered wine, and we talked and talked and talked.  Then we decided to go dancing (the long-gone Studio-B) where the music was Punk and the dancing was potentially dangerous.  So after only one beer, we headed out to find someplace a bit quieter or at least safer.  While trying to figure out where that might be, I announced I needed to make a pit stop.  We weren't far from his place, so we just went there.  Interesting walking into someone's apartment and finding 3-4 of his friends hanging out, watching TV and drinking.  He had no roommates, other than Larry-the-cat.

I used the facilities (not too clean, not too gross), met the friends, sat on the sofa.  After a bit, one of the gals dragged everyone else out.  Then I got a tour of the 2 bedroom apartment, which basically lasted until Monday morning, when I had to go back to work.  We actually did come up for air, and spent about 10 consecutive hours apart, but that was it for us really.  We were instantaneously joined at the hip and remained that way for many years after.  Some time ago, we removed the sutures, but we're still attached by a fairly short tether.  Even when we're flirting with other people, we always seem to be aware of each other, and we touch base often.

I met the family on Thanksgiving Day, he moved in with me about a week later.  Just after New Year's we were engaged and we eloped on March 28.  We held off on the kids for about 3 years though.  We've also opened and closed a business together, experienced bankruptcy, made a cross-country move, and are working on a 2nd business.  We've purchased 3 homes, 3 cars and 1 motorcycle together, had 3 cats, 2 birds and 1 dog as non-human family members, and renewed our vows on the edge of the Grand Canyon, and in our living room, and pretty much at every wedding we've ever attended.  We've agreed that the theme song of our marriage is the Eagles "The Long Run."  We've lost only 3 family members (his parents and my sister), and one dear friend, since we've been together.  We've traveled to Jacksonville, Charleston, Hilton Head, Atlanta, Baltimore, Washington DC, Gettysburg, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area, Athens (GA), Eau Claire and Minneapolis.  We've canoed almost all of the Yahara, the Wisconsin from Mazo to the Mississippi, and various other beautiful rivers in southern Wisconsin.  We've been to one opera and several amazing concerts.  We've shared crushes on several people, male & female.

And that's making a long story short.

Happy Anniversary HB!  I love you!

Happy Anniversary to you both! Yay! :) You have built an amazing family together, and I feel privileged to be included among some of your family activities.

Hearing all that you've done together makes me want to make a list too. :)

Thanks! And the list was just a spur of the moment thing, but lists are good, no?

Awww! Happy Anniversary to you both! I actually cried at your description of your "long run" right here at my desk at work. Very sweet. (And is it possible that I've actually known Jeremy longer than you've known barley52? I met him at a Halloween party in 1985, I kid you not, though we didn't actually start dating until Thanksgiving 1989. I don't know what it is about fall -- love is in the air then even more than in springtime, seems like.)

Anyway, give your family a kiss for me! Many happy returns!
