December update
So I'm thinking I should do a real post, right? Instead of just another meme or Stargate squee or whatever. I haven't felt very inspired lately though, hence the lack of substantial posts.
Job: I'm still working on the post mortem for a project that didn't go well for Johnson Controls. Technically, I'm assigned full-time to the Indiana prisons job still, but my part of it is pretty much running on auto-pilot, so I have more availability than I'm comfortable with. But, since I'm burning the prison job's money anyway, the midwest regional manager asked me to go through this other project. It's cool, because I'm a completely unbiased outsider, and I get to look at everything and figure what went wrong, and where, and why. I think of it as "forensic construction management." The uncool part is how my brain turns to mush after 6 hours of examining the files. I mean it. I'm just brain dead at that point.
Friends: Got to see good friends both days this weekend, which was a welcome change of pace. Spent all afternoon and evening on Sat with
bzdchris and
busman1994. We chatted all afternoon and then picked up Chang Jiang and stuffed ourselves, and then... I am such a kid about certain christmas things. I made them open their christmas present so we could spend the rest of the evening snuggled 4-to-the-couch drooling over the fabulous pictures and recipes in "Foie Gras: A Passion." O! M! G! !!!!!! I can't wait to try some of these recipes, and I'm so glad I've got friends who are with me on this one, LOL. Then Sunday, we went to
nayad's birthday celebration, met a few new people and hung out for about 3 hours before
barley52 needed to go home. We were practically the last people there anyway, so it was time to go. I've made a friend at work to, and I'm bummed to find out that a goal of hers is to move to Waukesha within the next year. This always happens to me at work. Whenever I make friends with a woman at work, within about a year, she leaves. ::sigh::
Kids: Mavis recently broke up with Jubal, who turned out to be a bit more clingy and needy than I had realized. Being our daughter, Mavis isn't exactly wired for that kind of relationship, so when he couldn't deal with her amount of independence, she broke it off. Rupert seems to be keeping up with school, although we got a note saying he needs to go to winter session to make up an outcome. He insists that it's one english project that he is still working on, and will finish this week. Mavis is solidifying her plans to go to MATC after graduation and then transfer to UW-Eau Claire to major in elementary ed. She also just got her first real job at - drum roll.... Panera Bread! LOL. She's just working weekend mornings for now.
Husband: Yeah, he's still hanging around. ::g:: He's suddenly bald and 40 lbs thinner, which is really interesting - he's looking a lot more like he did 20 yrs ago size-wise, but the bald thing is new. I can see his improvement every week, even though he sometimes is worried on a day-by-day basis.
Health: Tomorrow I go for my baseline mamogram, and next Tuesday I'll have the rest of a physical. I've got a weird little mole to be checked and some little floaters in my vision, and I'll get told to lose a little weight too. Still working on that second 10 lbs from last year. I've got to get crackin on that if I'm going to maintain the traditional 70 lb difference between me and B from now on.
House: Still trying to finish up the kitchen stuff - paint the doors, rehang them, put in the hardware, finish the shelves/cubbies.
christmas: I think all my shopping is done. still need to take the kids out to do their stuff. Everything is wrapped except what gets shipped this week. I'll be making delectable treats with
roguebitch next weekend. And it looks like we'll be having some friends over for dinner on xmas eve.
All in all, it's pretty good, even if it is pretty dull for the most part. Oh yeah. I got carded again today. ROFL
