fullygoldy: Yellow Roses (Polycon)
[personal profile] synecdochic posted a PSA today about volunteering for LJ and she mentions how potential employers get really excited in the interview and want to hear all about it.  I know I've got some smart, resume-building friends on my flist, so i thought I'd point y'all toward this opportunity.  It sounds fun and educational, and if i had any time at all, I might play around with it a bit, but for now all I can do is enable my friends :)

I'm traveling to LaCrosse on a pretty regular basis right now - practically weekly, and a co-worker insisted suggested I stay at the Stoney Creek aka "the Moose Lodge" instead of the Hampton across the highway.  Stoney Creek is quite large with a bar in the basement, several conference rooms, an indoor pool, a nice breakfast room, free wireless all over the building, and a total "north woods" decorating scheme.  There's a statue of a moose standing in a goldfish pond by the carport, and I swear the moose looks like he's smiling.  There's also a statue of a wolf family near the parking lot entrance.  There are lots of kitschy signs and decorations all over the building and in the rooms, but the best by far has to be the salt and pepper shakers in the breakfast room:

So if you have to stay anywhere near LaCrosse, give the Moose Lodge a try.  Take exit 5 toward LaCrosse off of I-90.  You want the south side of the freeway - away from the Home Depot/Walmart side.
