Wiscon 35 - Day 1
Saturday, May 28th, 2011 08:21 amfirst, I was late to pick up holyoutlaw and help him get his camera gear. So we headed out about an hour later than planned, but it went pretty smoothly. When we got back, I handed off my contribution to the clothing swap.
I went home for lunch with DH, then he dropped me off in plenty of time to hit The Gathering. I saw
While I was sitting in the registration area marking up my schedule, I met a delightful little person named Immogene (sp? I have no idea) with a doll named Booby. She was the second person within an hour to compliment my hair. Her favorite colors are pink and purple and she was looking forward to having her hair (with the blue streak in it) braided.
I attended the Dressing to Make a Statement panel, where I naturally ran into sasha. This is how we met, at our very first Wiscon. We picked the same first panel! Also, we keep picking the same panels with almost no prior collaboration. I loved Laura's eyemakeup technique. It's very similar to what I have planned for Genderfloomp.
At dinner break, I was hanging out in the lobby, hoping to hook up with friends, when Geoff Ryman walked by. I chirped, "hi, Geoff!" even though I didn't expect him to recognize me. I reminded him of the mutual autographing 2 yrs ago, and he immediately asked, "are you coming to dinner?" when I said I could be, he steered me toward his group heading to Husnu's. YAY! We had a group of 8, only 3 newbies, and the conversation was as excellent as the food.
Opening ceremony next, complete with quiz show, and I got to speak to Laura about the makeup and meet her sweetie, Heather. ETA: Then ran into
LJ party time to pick up stickers for my badge and mimosas just because.
Vid Party Redux, where I sat with sasha, hugged on were_duck, met dira_sudis (my heart, she is adorable!) and watched the first hour of awesome vids. I loved the flow. DH was ready to head home (he'd been out to La Roca's with friends), so I only saw 3 of the second hour set, but they were also of the awesome.
Got home to a house (garage)-ful of teens, so DH and I donned jammies and climbed into bed with the laptops to reconnect to the outside world before drifting off.
