My Response to OSBP

fullygoldy: Yellow Roses (Default)
I watched this from the sidelines from pretty close to it's inception.  Somehow, without having intended this, my Flist keeps me in touch with most the drama on LJ.  I think it was an important discussion/debate, and a lot of people learned from it.  links here  I didn't think I had anything new or valuable to contribute to the conversation, given the amount of very valuable stuff I encountered over the past couple weeks.

But I read this quote today, and have to share it:

I come from a people who gave the Ten Commandments to the world. Time has come to strengthen them by three additional ones, which we ought to adopt and commit ourselves to: thou shall not be a perpetrator; thou shall not be a victim; and thou shall never, but never, be a bystander. - Yehuda Bauer, professor (b. 1926)

I'm going to think of this as the full text of the Back Up button from now on.  And, it may possibly become my new email tag line, after 8 yrs of being happy with the "personal responsibility" quote from LMB.
